The Clyde Anti Aircraft Defences were built to protect Glasgow and the Clyde against German bombardment or invasion during the Second World War. Carnbooth was one of at least 40 Anti Aircraft Batteries built for this purpose. During the Cold War, some were converted to monitoring posts to detect possible Soviet nuclear attacks.
