About the Class
Introduction
Cani-Fit is a human and dog fitness company run by dog lovers. Using adaptations of dog powered harness sports Cani-Fit is a fun, natural way to get both owner and dog fit at the same time.
The sport of canicross, is trail running with a dog. The dog wears a harness and is attached to the runner by a bungee line to a belt.
Our regular classes are canicross related fitness training. They build great fitness for you and your dog. Increase bonding time and can improve your dogs behaviour with a one off or regular Cani-Fit class.
Expect adventure on the trails and sometimes a little mud!
Our classes are mixed ability, beginners are welcome (unless otherwise stated in the class description).
You will see each of our classes are labelled. Here is a bit more info to help you see which class is best suited to you and your dog. For most classes we can cater for a mixture of abilities if you have any questions, get in touch with the class leader who will be happy to help.
Canicross: Our bread and butter classes, running with your dog in harness. All classes are mixed ability, newbies are welcome as are experienced racers. Build fitness for you and your dog.
Cani-Hike: A fast walking class- no running! Enjoy working with your dog in harness, improve both your dog and your own fitness levels and learn some of the skills used in canicross.
Cani-Tour: An exciting way to discover new trails, scenic routes and meet like minded people. Enjoy a day out with the family and your dog. You might learn a thing or 2 on the route. These are generally longer or further than a regular class, so be prepared to be on the trails longer.
Cani-Hike / Jog: A mix of fast walking and steady paced canicross running. These will be mixed ability and can be a good introduction for hikers who want to try canicross as well as for experienced people who are looking for a more relaxed class.
Beginner: Beginners are welcome to all classes, but occasionally we will have some Beginner specific classes. These are more suited to beginners or those returning from a break. The pace will be a little slower and breaks longer to allow for more instruction. Experienced people are welcome, though do bear in mind it is aimed at beginners.
Block: A set of 3 or 4 linked classes you can book the block at once or use a rolling or monthly pass to attend (please let the leader know you are coming).
Pop Up: A single stand-alone class. You can book individually or use a rolling or monthly pass to attend (please let the leader know you are coming).
Monthly Pass: A single pass which allows you to attend upto 8 classes (hike, run, tour or a mixture of all) in a calendar month. These are valid for all areas/leaders classes. Just let each class leader know you are coming in advance so they know to expect you. Our best value pass.
Rolling 3 Class Pass: This allow you access to 3 classes and is aimed at those wanting more flexibility. Also a great option for beginners to get a good feel for the sport. This pass is valid for 2 calendar months (or 8 week period) from date of purchase and can be used for hike, run or tours across all areas/leaders. Just let each class leader know you are coming in advance so they know to expect you.
** NOTE **
- If you are new and want to borrow kit, please get in touch with the class leader beforehand who will be happy to help.
- If a class is not suitable for beginners due to terrain or distance this will be stated in the class description.
- Some of the longer classes require a degree of fitness, this will be stated in the class description, please consider if you and your dog have the fitness/stamina before booking.
- Classes run throughout winter, always dress for the conditions and it’s a good idea to have dry clothing/shoes in the car and always a treat and towel for the dogs for afterwards.
- Winter evening classes require a head torch
Level 1
These classes are suitable for people with no existing fitness level. They are not high intensity. You will be able to begin at power walk level with some jogging and over the weeks work your way to jogging and running.
You should also attend this level of class first if you and/or your dog are totally new to canicross or running. Even if you are a regular runner, it’s a good idea to get a few of these under your belt to let you and your dog learn the basics of running as a team.
People with level 2 or 3 ability can also attend these classes but be prepared that this class is aimed at those who are new to the sport or to fitness.
Level 2
A mixed ability class with more experienced people than newbies. This class is for people who have been canicrossing before and already having some existing fitness. You should be able able to jog/run 5k in order to attend this class. We can welcome newcomers at this level but be prepared to do more running than a level 1 class.
Level 3
For experienced canicrossers who are running 5k in under 30 mins. This more intense class is to push you in your training and will work on your speed and endurance.
